What even is a blog software?

There are so many option for blogs. It's crazy. I feel like I just want something simple, but it turns out, I actually want something more complicated.

I want:

• Simple post writing - just a text file is fine.
• Assets
• Back/forward navigation
• View posts in order
• permalinks etc

Result? I think Metalsmith looks pretty nice - so I'm going with that.
